Sustainable Homes

We aspire tocreate sustainable communities, designed to inspire. InWythalland across other Bellway developments, we arereducing our carbon emissions throughout the construction process and, of course, delivering sustainable and efficient homes which are fit for the future.

Energy House

Bellway has built a prototype “Future Home” inside the University of Salford’s Energy House 2.0 climate facility. The house is tested under extreme conditions, from ‑20°C to 40°C, with simulated wind, rain, snow and solar radiation, to evaluate technologies such as air source heat pumps, heat recovery systems, smart heating controls and solar energy storage.

The data from these tests directly shapes the design for Wythall, helping us optimise energy‑saving heating systems, improve insulation, and create highly efficient homes that reduce carbon emissions and perform reliably in all weather conditions.

Sustainability Features of our homes

From 2025, our homes will produce 75 – 80% less carbon emissions than those delivered under current regulations.

Biodiversity and the Environment

Bellway aim to create long-term, sustainable communities in which our customers want to live. Our communities are built with the intention of protecting the local environment, ensuring that we care for and maintain as much as possible.

At Wythall, the existing woodland structure including mature trees, existing hedgerows and watercourses will be retained where possible and inform the design of the green infrastructure framework to respect the Site’s landscape pattern and create improved ecological connectivity.

A network of green infrastructure will complement the setting, including sustainable drainage features, biodiversity enhancements and park land planting to create a vibrant and environmentally conscious landscape.

We will support our customers to create a ‘space for nature’ in the gardens of their new home and ensure that the mowing regimes on all new developments are beneficial to invertebrates like bees and beetles.

Building with Nature

We are exploring the Building for Nature programme to create interconnected green spaces, wildlife‑friendly gardens, and sustainable drainage features that boost biodiversity across the site. Nature trails, parkland planting, and enhanced hedgerows will improve ecological links, and the proposals aim to achieve at least a 10% biodiversity net gain. Residents will also be encouraged to support wildlife in their own gardens through invertebrate‑friendly mowing and habitat enhancements.
